What is Blogging
April 7, 2008 – 12:42 pmBlogging is first and foremost a written medium. If you’re a writer and trying to grow an audience for your writing, then put pen to paper. Blogging is something else, or at least it is showing itself to be something else. That something else is important, a social space for people who would otherwise be isolated in an unaccommodating way. Blogging is about micro content - publishing miniature pieces of thought and observations, anchored with links and carried away by feeds. However, the real significance is not at the post level - ecosystems between blog posts are more appealing and more important.
Blogging is often taken as casual writing. While this may be true, it does not mean that it is okay for a blogger to forget about writing rules. Blogging is more than the sum of its parts. Blogging is really for everybody. It is fun, straightforward and easy.
Blogging is a phenomenon that is here to stay. Millions of people create blogs, and millions more read them. Blogging is a fantastic way to reach all the goals of a writer. However it’s very time consuming. Blogging is still a long way from reaching critical mass. Blogging is true self publishing only when the blogger has total control of his or her blog.
