History Behind Facebook
December 19, 2007 – 11:49 amFacebook was started in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg, a student at Hardvard University at the time. The site was originally known as “The Facebook” and was initially designed exclusively for students attending the prestigious university. As the site grew, it began to expand to other colleges, such as Stanford and Yale. In August of 2005, “The Facebook” was officially renamed to Facebook after Zuckerberg and his company purchased the domain facebook.com for $200,000 United States Dollars. In September of the same year, the high school version of Facebook was launched. By the end of the 2005 year, Facebook had expanded to over 27,000 colleges and high schools in seven different countries.
